Our History: From Ice Storm to Industry Leader
Our journey began in the aftermath of the 1998 ice storm, where we stepped in to help neighbours during weeks-long power outages. From those early days of resilience and community spirit, our reputation grew quickly, and within a year, we were hiring staff to keep up with demand.

Ron's First Child
Ron began his local plumbing apprenticeship, transitioning from travelling construction work to laying the foundation for his future business.
1998

Amidst one of the worst natural disasters in the region, Thompson’s Plumbing was born, providing reliable support to the community when it mattered most.
2005
First Hydronic Heating System
We expanded our services with our very first hydronic heating system installation, adding advanced comfort solutions to our plumbing expertise.
2007
Master Plumber Certification
Ron became a certified Master Plumber through the City of Kingston, further elevating the quality and expertise of our work.
2018
First Septic Installation
We completed our first septic system install, marking the start of our comprehensive excavation and septic services.
2022
Largest ATL Septic System in Canada
A milestone achievement: we installed the largest Advanced Treatment Leaching (ATL) septic system in the country.

Ron Thompson
Founder & Master Plumber
Ron started in the trade in 1986, where he grew into his career by getting his full license in 1993. With nearly four decades of experience in plumbing and heating, Ron built Thompson’s Plumbing on a foundation of hard work and dedication. He holds a Certificate of Qualification, a Kingston Master Plumber license, and a Water Well license through the Ontario MECP, following an earlier career in road construction and bridge building. Ron continues to share his knowledge and craftsmanship across every project.
John (Jack) Thompson
Owner & Red Seal Journeyman Plumber
With over 13 years of experience in plumbing and heating, Jack leads the team with hands-on expertise and a passion for problem-solving. He holds a Red Seal Journeyman Plumber certification and an On-Site Sewage System Installer license, ensuring the highest standards for both residential and septic projects. Academically trained and university educated, Jack also holds a BCIN designer qualification specifically for in-house septic design, qualified to produce and approve building plans for construction projects in Ontario, Canada.
Peter McCarthy
Licensed Plumber
With 25 years of experience and a Certificate of Qualification in Plumbing, Peter is a trusted expert who handles complex plumbing projects with confidence and efficiency. His wealth of experience ensures every job is done right the first time.
Taylor Onion
Plumbing Apprentice & Licensed Technician
Taylor brings a diverse skill set to the team with 7 years of experience in plumbing and heating. He recently completed Level 2 (Intermediate) in-class training and holds multiple licenses, including Gas Technician 2 and Oil Burner Technician 2. Before joining Thompson’s, Taylor worked in home furnace and air conditioning installation, giving him a broad understanding of home comfort systems.
Ryan Reise
Plumbing Apprentice
Ryan brings a strong background in construction and trades. Before starting his plumbing career, he spent 10 years in commercial steel siding and flat roofing, 2 years in custom home building, 2 years crafting custom kitchen cabinets, and 1 year as a restoration technician. His hands-on experience and attention to detail make him a valuable part of the team.
Krista Thompson
Office Manager
Krista has been with Thompson Plumbing since it first started. She's the office manager, dealing with all things operations, administrative, and customer relations.
